I don't see any yellow boxes at all.

Make sure you're scanning a light-colored, relatively uniform background (white wall works best). Start at ~1× zoom and sweep slowly. The detector looks for small dark spots against a light background — very dark or textured surfaces will suppress detection.

I see yellow boxes but never get a red confirmation box.

To trigger Stage 2: (1) center the yellow box in the crosshair, (2) zoom to at least 1.5× or move closer so the target occupies a larger area, (3) hold steady for about half a second. All three conditions must be met.

The app shows yellow boxes on things that aren't mosquitoes (dust, shadows, etc.).

Stage 1 is intentionally high-recall — it marks anything that could be a mosquito. Only Stage 2 (zoom-in confirmation) is the actual classification. False yellow halos are normal and expected; false red boxes should be rare.

The detection pauses whenever I move the phone.

This is the anti-shake guard working as intended. Rapid phone movement (walking, repositioning) temporarily pauses detection to prevent false triggers. It resumes automatically once the phone is steady.

Does the app work in the dark without the flashlight?

The flashlight is required for reliable detection. The Stage 1 algorithm relies on having enough illumination to distinguish a dark mosquito from the background. Without the flashlight in a dark room, detection accuracy degrades significantly.

Can the app detect mosquitoes in flight?

The current version is optimized for stationary mosquitoes on surfaces (walls, ceilings, curtains). Flying mosquitoes move too fast and unpredictably for reliable detection with the current pipeline.

Does it use internet / does it upload camera images?

No. Mosquito Finder is completely offline. No data ever leaves your device. See the Privacy Policy for full details.

Which iPhone models are supported?

Any iPhone running iOS 17 or later. Newer devices with A-series chips (A15+) give slightly better CoreML performance, but all modern iPhones are fully supported.

How do I switch language between English and Chinese?

On the home/launch screen, tap the language toggle button in the top-left corner (shows "EN" or "中") to switch instantly.

看不到任何黄色方框

请确保对着浅色、纹理较均匀的背景（白墙效果最好）。从 1× 变焦开始，缓慢扫动手机。检测器专门寻找浅色背景上的小黑点——背景颜色越深或纹理越复杂，检测效果越差。

有黄框但不出现红框确认

触发第二阶段需同时满足：① 将黄框居中到准星范围内；② 放大至 1.5× 以上，或靠近使目标占更大面积；③ 保持手机稳定约半秒。三个条件同时满足才会触发红框。

灰尘、阴影等也出现黄框

第一阶段设计为高召回率——只要有可能是蚊子的深色点都会被标出。黄框误报是正常现象，真正的确认（红框）才是实际分类结果，误报率极低。

手机一移动检测就暂停

这是防抖机制正常工作。快速晃动会暂停检测以减少误报，手机稳定后自动恢复。

会上传摄像头图像吗？

不会。本应用完全离线运行，不进行任何网络连接，不上传任何数据。详见隐私政策。
